Google’s Developer Conference in San Francisco is still alive and kicking, but the most anticipated part of it, Google’s keynote, has passed. We’ve been covering the Google I/O happenings intensively here at Android Headlines, and more content is coming, so stay tuned for that. That being said, Google had lots to say during the company’s keynote which lasted over 2 hours. Google has talked about Android Pay, Google Cardboard, Photos app, self-driving cars… and lots more. One of the most interesting parts of the keynote was the announcement of the next version of Google’s mobile operating system, Android M.
The company has announced Android M, which still doesn’t have a name by the way, similar to Android L last year. Anyhow, Google didn’t only announce Android M, the company has showcased it during the keynote, sharing a ton of its features and has even released Android M Developer Preview for Nexus 5, 6, 9 and Player, for developers and those of you who want to flash it on and try it out. Android M actually brings quite a few improvements to the operating system, but the biggest focus here is on squashing bugs and optimization in order to make this the smoothest version of Android to date.
Google did, however, introduce a number of features to Android M. The new version of Android supports fingerprint support natively, which will certainly help OEMs and developers alike. The company has also introduced ‘Doze’, a new feature which will use the motion sensor in order to determine whether you use the device or not, and will based on that kill off apps in the background to improve battery life. USB Type-C is supported in Android M as well, and Google has also revamped the app permission here as well. One of the most interesting features the Mountain View giant has showcased, is ‘Now on Tap’, which is an intelligent enhancement to Google now, which will let you access info anywhere on Android M. This feature seems really intelligent and aware of the content, which lets it pull up info no matter what you’re doing basically, you can read more about it here.
