Asus was one of those manufacturers which managed to get a lot of attention and media coverage during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas back in January. Why is that? Well, the company has announced their new lineup of devices called the ZenFone 2. Asus has actually announced four devices as part of their lineup, Asus ZenFone 2 ZECL550, ZEML550 and two ZEML551 devices. The model that managed to get the most attention out of the bunch is the highest-end one, the 4GB variant of the ZEML551. This phone actually sports 4GB of RAM on the inside and is the first phone in the world which launched sporting that many RAM on the inside.
We’ve already managed to get some hands-on time with the device back at CES, but now we actually managed to acquire the device and will review it. That being said, we have some hands-on images for you with this device, the red variant of the ZenFone 2. If you take a look at the gallery below this article you’ll notice a ton of images which will let you get a better look at the device. Speaking of which, the ZenFone 2 is a very well built handset and the red color looks really good in real life, some of which might not like it though. Either way, the camera doesn’t do this color justice. As you can see in the images, the phone actually has three capacitive buttons below the display: back, home and overview, respectively. You’ll also notice that the volume buttons are placed on the back of this device, below the camera sensor and a dual LED, dual tone flash.
As already mentioned, there are four different variants of this device. The ZECL550 variant sports a 5-inch HD display, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, while Intel’s Atom Z2560 SoC is powering on this handset. 8 and 2-megapixel shooter are located on the back and front of this device, respectively. The ZEML550 sports a 5.5-inch HD display, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable internal storage along with Intel’s Atom Z3560 processor. The front-facing camera is the same you’ll find in the ZECL550 model, but there’s a 13-megapixel snapper on the back of this handset. The ZEML551 comes in two variants which are identical in every aspect except RAM count, the higher end model sports 4GB of RAM. The ZEML551 features a 5.5-inch 1080p display, multiple internal storage options, is powered by Intel’s Atom Z3560 or Z3580 and ships with 13 and 5-megapixel shooters. All of these devices offer 4G LTE support, which was to be expected.
