We have already seen MediaTek comparing MediaTek’s Helio 20 which is also known as the MediaTek MT6797 System-on-Chip and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810, which you can see here. Now its Qualcomm’s that has taken the numbers game seriously and is developing a new 10-core beast. There hasn’t been an official announcement or an official statement released by Qualcomm, but an Engineer from Qualcomm leaked this information.
So what is there in Qualcomm’s Deca-Core CPU? For starters, it will be featuring the most advanced and powerful Graphics Processing Unit from Adreno that is the Adreno 532. The ten cores will be working together to deliver maximum performance. Out of the 10 cores, 4 cores will be High Power Cores of Cortex A72 which will be clocked at 2.0 GHz that will be used for the heaviest processing while playing heavy games or running heavy applications on your mobile. The remaining six cores will consist of 2 mid-power cores and 4 low power cores. The mid power cores will feature the Cortex A53 at 1.6 GHz that the smartphone will use for normal usage during the execution of routine applications and simple games. The low power cores will also be of Cortex A53, but they will be clocked at 1.2 GHz. Low power cores are used for performing the basic processing of the smartphone.
The Snapdragon 818 is also said to be featuring support for the LPDDR4 RAM. The Deca-Cored CPU will also be capable of handling the LTE Cat-10 speeds. Combining all these features this beast has a stellar specification sheet on paper. If we compare the MediaTek’s Deca-Core CPU MT6797, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 818 falls behind in the processing frequencies of its processing cores. The Helio 20 features 2 high power cores clocked at 2.5 GHz and 4 mid power cores clocked at 2.0 GHz. It also has 4 low power cores clocked at 1.4 GHz. It has more processing power than its competitor but where the Helio falls behind is the support of LPDDR4 RAM. Even Snapdragon’s 810 SoC also had the support for LPDDR4 RAM but MediaTek’s premium chipset still can’t support LPDDR4 RAM. Another shortfall of Helio 20 is that it only supports Cat-6 LTE whereas our Snapdragon 818 will have the support for Cat-10 LTE. Even Snapdragon 810 has Cat-9 LTE support in it. Both the Chipset’s will be in the market soon and we will then compare their real-life performance to see who the real winner is.
