There’s no arguing that smartphones and tablets have become and invaluable resource for people with work and school, making it easy to type up notes and other things then save them in the cloud so they can be accessed anywhere with an internet connection. Sometimes though, you just can’t substitute for taking notes the old-fashioned way, with a pen, but you don’t want to give up the advancement and convenience of using a smart device to type up the things you want written down. This is where something like the Livescribe smart pens would come in as a useful tool, allowing you to write with a traditional pen that not only records audio while you write, but also takes all your handwritten notes and turns that into data which can be transferred to a smartphone or tablet in a digital version.
Today Livescribe has announced the global Android launch of the Livescribe+ application. What this does is give every Android device user the ability to use the latest device in Livescribe’s arsenal, the Livescribe 3 smart pen. The app isn’t new as it’s already available on iOS, but the Android version of Livescribe+ has been designed specifically for Android with a material design style UI to help Android users get the most out of the app and the Livescribe 3. It’s worth noting that this is also a fully featured version of the application unlike the preview version of the app which launched last month.
With the app installed on either a smartphone or a tablet, anything you write or sketch will show up on whatever mobile device has the app and is synced to the pen allowing you to keep digital saves of all the stuff that’s put down on paper. The Livescribe 3 is also capable of syncing with multiple devices (up to four total) making it ideal for sharing notes with others. This makes it so that not every single person working in groups has to have a Livescribe 3. Livescribe+ is also compatible with other note taking apps on Android so anything handwritten using the Livescribe 3 can be synced with apps like Google Drive, OneNote and Evernote among others, or users can create what Livescribe calls pencasts, which basically syncs recorded audio with the digital handwriting so that all digitized notes can be played back at any time. In addition to Livescribe+, Livescribe has also introduced an Android specific app called Livescribe link, which lets users manage their connections to the Livescribe 3 smart pen and the Livescribe+ app. It also lets users determine whether or not their device is supported by the Livescribe 3 smart pen.
