Indian smartphone vendor Micromax has introduced a new phone in its entry-level Bolt series, named the Bolt Q335. The device has already been listed on the company’s website, although, there hasn’t been an official press statement issued, nor has any pricing or availability details been revealed. That information is likely to be revealed over the next few days, when Micromax announces the device officially to the media. Going by the specifications of the phone, it is highly likely that this will be a low-cost entry-level smartphone, and is unlikely to have a price-tag of over Rs. 6000 ($100).
The Bolt Q335 sports a 4.5-inch FWVGA (854 x 480) TFT display. The device is powered by a Spreadtrum SC7731 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz. It comes with 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of inbuilt storage, which is expandable by up to 32 GB via a microSD card. The device carries a 5-megapixel rear camera with fixed-focus and an LED flash and a 2-megapixel front camera. The battery on the device is rated at 1650 mAh, which the company claims is good enough for 5.5 hours of talk time on 3G. The device supports dual-SIM (GSM + WCDMA), runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box and on the connectivity front, supports Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, and 3G. The device also comes with a built-in GPS tracker. The smartphone comes preloaded with apps such as Askme, Chaatz, Clean Master, Dr. Safety, Hotstar, Housing, NewsHunt, Paytm, Quickr, Snapdeal, Reverie, Opera max, Giga jump and Mannons.
Micromax has been on a roll of late, having wrested the number one slot from Samsung in the country, at least according to market analysis and consultancy firm Canalys. The company has recently also reportedly attracted investment from China’s Alibaba group, and has been aggressively looking to capture the lower-end of the market for growth, now that the mid and higher levels have severe competition. The new Bolt Q335 is yet another step towards that blueprint, which Micromax hopes will keep them at the top of the heap in the Indian smartphone space, which has been seeing a lot of action lately with several brands especially from China, flooding the market with low-priced, feature-rich devices with hardware hitherto unseen at the entry-level.
