More Android M Permissions Control Rumors Surface

Google’s android extravaganza, I/O 2015 is literally so close now that the excitement is building dramatically. By this time tomorrow, a number of the key announcements will have been made and the public will know what to expect for the year going forward. While there is likely to be a number of surprises coming down the wire at the event, some announcements will not be too much of a surprise, due to the amount of information that has leaked or been speculated upon prior to the start of the event.

For instance, one aspect of android which has been widely reported on in the past few weeks is the latest update to the android operating system, which is currently going by the name Android M or by the codename Macadamia Nut Cookie if certain recent rumors are to be believed. Well, Android M is now largely expected to be unveiled at the event, with a view to a release much later in the year. Although, the actual details of M have yet to be made public, the common consensus is that this update will be very much a security-focused update and will introduce a number of new security features. One of those features in particular which has been rumored recently, is the idea of a more advanced app permission control.

Well, following on from the recent rumors on this, it now seems that Android Police (source link below) are further adding to the speculation that Android M will come with this new increased security app permissions in tow. In fact, if the current rumors are correct, then it is likely that the app permissions of Android M will be quite specific, allowing users to deactivate any and all permissions as they see fit. It is suggested that apps will no longer offer mass acceptance of all permissions and instead users will be promoted on a permission by permission basis. Of course, whether this is one after the other or on an as-when-needed basis, remains to be known. Either way, it does seem that Android M is going to come with a much more detailed permission control and one which is looking increasingly likely to be unveiled in the coming hours.
