Opera is constantly working on improvements and putting out upgrades. Just at the end of April, they updated their Android app to add a Turbo Mode and Data Savings…adding features that Chrome has had for a while. With a premium on data, this new update will help load pages faster and can save you up to 30-40-percent on your data, depending what type of pages you are trying to load.
The latest version, Opera Max, offers a faster Wi-Fi experience using their new compression technology. Their press announcement says, “New Opera Max version includes a Wi-Fi data-savings option. The data-compression app will allow users to control their mobile data and Wi-Fi data independently.” Opera studies have shown that 80-percent of all data usage is on Wi-Fi networks and because of this, users are experiencing network congestion on their Wi-Fi signal, especially during the busiest times when kids get home from school and the gaming and ‘YouTubing’ begin. Wi-Fi savings has been Opera’s number-one request by Opera Max users. This new compression feature can help Opera users enjoy a faster connection, as well as keep track of what apps are using data and track how they behave on Wi-Fi.
The new version of Opera Max has moved away from their familiar tabbed navigation design and looks more like the new Google Material Design navigation pattern with a navigation drawer. This updated interface makes it look fresh and updated as well as gives Android users a familiar look and feel.
The new Opera Max has an App Blocking feature that the user can use to prevent apps from tracking them or using their data without permission. You can also stop apps from running in the background, which will help conserve your battery life as well. The “Blocked Apps” section gives the user complete control over their apps mobile access to data and Wi-Fi.
