Android TV is still a young platform. Although, Android TV is here, the availability of compatible apps and features is still somewhat limited. Not to mention, the actual availability of devices is also rather limited. However, more recently the variance on ways to enjoy Android TV is improving. One of the Android TV devices which has been widely reported on is the Nvidia Shield. This one is much more focused towards those who want to combine an Android TV experience with one that has more of a gaming emphasis. As such, the Nvidia Shield is widely waited upon by a number of consumers.
That said, more recently, another version of the Nvidia Shield Android TV running device has been hitting the headlines, albeit, one that is technically still unconfirmed. It all began when the device suddenly made an appearance on the Nvidia website. The promo image showed the standard version along with what seemed to be a “Pro” version. There were two main differences between the Pro and standard versions. The first was that the Pro version came with a $100 higher price tag. The second, the Pro version came with a massive 500GB of storage (compared to the 16GB on the standard version). However, quickly afterwards Nvidia stated this was not meant for consumer purchase and instead was some sort of developer or testing version. Following this, during this week, the Pro version made another appearance but this time on Amazon. This further fueled the likelihood that the 500GB version was coming to market. Although, as quickly as the Amazon listing went live, it was pulled again.
Now, the latest on the Pro version is that a customer care agent for Nvidia has seemed to semi-confirm that the Pro version will launch alongside the standard version, in the coming weeks. The customer care agent was asked about the device and did confirm that it will launch at the same time. In a follow-up question, the agent was also asked to confirm that the price was the rumored $299. Although, the agent did not confirm the price specifically, they did state “Pricing can always change so please look out for our official launch later this month“. Which seemed to act as a further confirmation that the Pro version is coming, that it will be consumer available and is likely to be at the price originally thought.
