So the “Huawei Nexus” rumor isn’t really new. We’ve been hearing these rumors since Mobile World Congress actually. And just recently, we heard that they are making a 5.7-inch Nexus device – with a QHD display actually and tons of other flagship specs. But now it looks like LG might be making a Nexus smartphone this year as well. At least according to Artem Russakovskii (from Android Police). Artem writes on Google+, “What’s more interesting, the source also mentioned a second Nexus phone this year – an LG, with a planned 5.2” screen size…”Now this is what everyone was hoping for last year with the Nexus 6, as having a 6-inch device is just too big for some people. Which Artem mentions that as well, “If Google indeed rolls with both, it’d be the first time two Nexus phones came out in the same year – a strategy that makes a whole lot of sense to me as not everyone is into behemoths like a Nexus 6.”
It’s still really early in the year, however. I mean, Google I/O hasn’t even happened just yet. Google typically releases new smartphones in the fall, as well as tablets and other hardware. While we’re seeing a new version of Android previewed at Google I/O later this month, that won’t be released until the fall on some new hardware. And it’s looking like we’ll have a 5.2-inch and a 5.7-inch Nexus this time around. Although things can change, it’s happened before, actually. So it’s important to stress that this is just a rumor right now and thus we must treat it as such. LG has done well making the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, and we wouldn’t expect anything less if this rumor does turn out to be legit.
However, having two Nexus sizes would make lots of people happy. The Nexus 6 wasn’t as popular as the Nexus 4 and 5 before it. Partially because of the price, but mostly because of the size. And it appears that Google is correcting that this year, which is a good thing. As far as a new Nexus 9 or even another Android TV, there’s no rumors there just yet. Hopefully we’ll hear something soon though.
