Since the original Galaxy Note, Samsung has typically launched their latest and greatest phablet during Berlin’s IFA event, held every year in September. Last year, we saw Samsung announce the Galaxy Note 4 as well as the Galaxy Note Edge during an Unpacked Event held during IFA 2014. Samsung has a history of following trade shows and it’s pretty clear that they like to be the big attraction at the events, and we saw just that with the launch of the Galaxy S6 during Mobile World Congress 2015 back in March of this year. There are rumors however, that Samsung is looking to launch the Galaxy Note 5 earlier this year, and this latest report has said that a launch in July is possible.
According to WhoWired out of Korea, Samsung could have pushed forward the release date of the Galaxy Note 5 and it could launch before the end of July. Right now, this is just a rumor, but it sounds as if Samsung is looking to avoid the situation of last year, where the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus launched very closely to the Galaxy Note 5. Looking to further distance themselves from the launch of new iPhones, Samsung could be looking to get out in front and offer users a new, larger smartphone before Apple has the chance. According to reports, the Galaxy Note 5 is to be an improved version of last year’s Galaxy Note 4 and could feature design elements from the Galaxy S6, as well as another “Edge” variant.
Moving the launch up from September to July is no mean feat, and shaves a couple of months off of the launch time, giving Samsung little time to get thing in order. Having said that, if they can have the Galaxy Note 5 on store shelves as the competition is just getting round to launching their devices for the Holiday Season, Samsung could make things very difficult for the competition, including Apple. Whether or not the Galaxy Note 5 launches early is something we’ll need to wait and see, but after the massive success of the Galaxy S6, their latest phablet has some work cut out for it.
