Intel is a name that many are familiar with but don’t commonly associate with devices in the mobile computing space as much as some others. Intel has been working to change that over the years and has made some significant strides in 2015 with the latest releases of its Atom chipsets in both phones, like the Asus Zenfone 2, and upcoming tablets. Acer is now able to claim the title of first with Intel’s latest Cherry Trail based chipsets in the announcement of their upcoming 8-inch gaming tablet, the Predator 8. Specifically we’re looking at the brand new 14nm Atom x7 processor here, which is the cream of the crop of Intel’s newest lineup.
Featuring styling that’s very reminisce of an Alienware PC or some other gaming machine of late, the Predator 8 boasts some bold looks including sharp angles on its corners and a color scheme that’s meant to look aggressive. Red, black and grey are the colors of the day here, and combined with the angles make this tablet certainly very unique looking. The four front-facing speakers found in each corner of the tablet are designed to immerse the user in an unparalleled experience in the world of gaming tablets, which would also extend to those who just like to watch movies and other videos on their tablets as well.
Intel’s newest Cherry Trail based processors feature the latest Intel integrated graphics which are designed to compete with the rest of the chipsets out there in Android land. As it is an Android powered tablet instead of a Windows-based one we’re looking at different graphics capabilities than one might expect out of a more PC-grade chipset here, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be a slouch when compared to the best of the Android gaming tablets out there. Whether or not it’s ready to decimate the Nvidia Shield powered by Nvidia’s own chipsets remains to be seen, as Nvidia has long held the performance crown when it comes to mobile gaming performance, but Intel isn’t shying away from touting some pretty aggressive marketing tactics with its newest chips. There’s no pricing or availability quite yet, just that it’ll be on the market in a few months time.
