Cloud storage has grown into a popular service to offer, and there are many choices for consumers and businesses alike. Amazon also offers their own cloud storage service called Cloud Drive, and they recently made a few changes to give the service a more robust capability. Earlier this year Amazon announced a new option with Cloud Drive to allow unlimited storage which is a great addition when compared to others that impose limits, and today Amazon has announced and released a new SDK for their Cloud Drive service which allows developers to take advantage of it by building Cloud Drive storage options into their applications.
With this possibility more app developers can allow easy integration with Cloud Drive making it even more seamless for those who use it. The SDK has been launched for both Android and iOS, so developers on both sides will be able to take advantage of the new benefits. While the benefits for users means easy access to Amazon Cloud Drive through their favorite apps, for developers Amazon is making things easy by setting up the ability to access the SDK for download right through the Amazon developer portal. Amazon states that developers who choose to utilize the new SDK for Cloud Drive integration purposes, can do so whether they’re trying to add the integration to new applications they’re developing or to existing apps which are already available to users.
There are a small handful of apps on Android already using Amazon’s Cloud Drive SDK to integrate storage, which includes A+ Gallery, TextMaker HD Basic, PlanMaker HD Basic, and Presentations HD Basic. Although these are the only ones highlighted by Amazon, more could be initiating this change as we speak, and undoubtedly more developers will roll this integration out to their apps in the future. Amazon is keen on making simplicity the key here, and with the new Cloud Drive SDK developers won’t have a need to parse JSON or refer back to the REST API documentation. The result sounds like a much easier process for developers in allowing their apps to integrate with Cloud Drive, so here’s to hoping more developers get on board with using it.
