Android Headliner: What To Expect From The Meizu MX5

Meizu is one of the most interesting China-based companies. This smartphone OEM has released some really solid devices last year, including the Meizu MX4, MX4 Pro and M1 Note, not to mention the Meizu M1 which launched back in January as well. The first two devices are the company’s flagship offerings, and the M1 Note and M1 are extremely affordable and yet really capable smartphones. We didn’t hear much from Meizu in the first quarter of the year, but the rumors have been going at it for quite some time now. Meizu has revealed the M1 Note’s successor, the M2 Note, quite recently, and that handset is even more affordable than its predecessor.

That being said, the most anticipated Meizu device of this year is quite probably the Meizu MX5. The company has announced recently that they’ll announce that handset on June 30th in Beijing, and we’ll be there live to cover the event. The Meizu MX5 has been leaking for quite some time now, and we’ve managed to gather a whole lot of info when it comes to this device. By posting the event teaser, Meizu has already confirmed that the phone will sport a metal body, and it’s up to us to try to figure out what other specs will be included in this package, read on.

The Meizu MX5 has already been certified by TENAA (China’s equivalent to the FCC) earlier this month. According to that listing, the phone will feature a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) AMOLED display along with 3GB of RAM and various non-expandable internal storage options. MediaTek’s Helio X10 (MT6795) 64-bit octa-core SoC will power this handset (keep in mind that the Exynos SoC was also mentioned in some rumors), and a 3,150mAh battery was also mentioned. The 20-megapixel camera is located on the back of this handset, while there’s a 5-megapixel snapper available up front. Android 5.0 Lollipop will come pre-installed here with Meizu’s Flyme UI on top, and the phone will weight 147 grams. The Meizu MX5 will offer 4G LTE connectivity, will reportedly measure 146 x 74.6 x 7.9mm and weight 147 grams.

We’ve also seen quite a few leaked renders and real life images of the Meizu MX5, all of which you can check out in the gallery down below. We still don’t know which of those designs will be final, but chances are one of them is. One thing is for sure, the phone will be made out of metal, and it’s also quite possible that the physical home button will be located below the display (and double as a fingerprint scanner). The physical home button appeared in almost every single one of those leaked design, so chances are it will be present. You can also expect this handset to be rather affordable, especially considering the specifications that are included in here.

There you have it, the Meizu MX5 will be a really capable device, presuming the leaks and reports are accurate. This will be a very sturdy handset, which will offer great performance and won’t cost all that much, though its availability will most probably be limited again. Meizu sells their devices only in China, at least officially, but you’ll be able to get this via resellers, as always. Who knows, perhaps Meizu surprises us this time and actually expands its business before the end of the year, who knows. Either way, stay tuned, the event will take place on June 30, and we’ll let you know what’s going on straight from China.
