Android OTA: Device Updates & Firmware Weekly – June 12th Edition

LG G2 Mini Gets Lollipop Update in Europe

Back when LG released the LG G2, we were wondering whether or not they would follow others and produce a cutdown version of the device, and they did just that with the G2 Mini. This guy had a 4.7-inch 960 x 540 display and a Snapdragon 400 CPU. While not the most exciting device, it was fairly affordable. Now, in parts of Europe it’s getting updated to – finally – Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. Other than shiny new software, there’s an apparent 3 hours added to the battery life with the G2 Mini in this latest update, too. It’s said to be rolling out across Europe, but it might be some time before you see it.

Galaxy S5 Gets Small Update on Verizon Wireless

As always, Verizon keeps the tiny updates coming, and this time around we’re looking at the Galaxy S5 and an update that includes the amazing “Galaxy Apps” store for apps and games as well as the use of the fingerprint scanner for Microsoft Exchange accounts, which is actually fairly useful.

HTC One M9 International Units Get Camera Tweak Update

The HTC One M9 just keeps on getting updates like these and this time, we’re looking at one for just International units. That means unlocked units in Europe and parts of the Middle East and Africa will see this. The update keeps the device on Android 5.0.2, but takes the software version up to 1.40.401.5 and as for what’s changed? Well, take a look at the changelog below, which AnAndTech managed to get their hands on.

Camera
  • Greater auto-exposure balance to improve overexposure, so images look less washed out.
  • Reduction of noise and blur in low light, so images are clearer and detail is more apparent.
  • Reduction of yellow/green hue to photos taken in extreme lighting conditions, so colors appear truer to their actual hue.
 Battery Life
  • Reduced power consumption by YouTube and Facebook, so you can stay on these sites longer or know that your battery will last longer if your site use doesn’t change.
 Heat Management
  • Smart charging thermal improvement, which means your phone will stay cooler when it’s being charged.

LG’s G Flex 2 Bumped to Android 5.1.1 on Sprint

LG’s G Flex 2 got a surprise treat on Sprint a little while ago, to Android 5.1.1 no less! This was a very quiet update from both parties here, so either it didn’t sell very well or they don’t want to embarrass newer LG devices. Either way, Android 5.1.1 should have hit your Sprint G Flex 2 by now. All the info can be found here.

Verizon’s Moto E Gets Android 5.1 Update

Verizon doesn’t play by the rules, okay? They’re cool with updating less important devices before their flagships, but to be fair to Big Red this is probably more Motorola than anything. Anyway, the prepaid Moto E (second generation, naturally) now has Android 5.1 Lollipop on Verizon’s network. All the information is here.

G Pad 7.0 LTE Gets Lollipop on Verizon

Here we have yet another update from Verizon this week, this time for the more budget-minded G Pad 7.0, which is getting its update to Android 5.0.2 this week. All the info you can find here, but this isn’t terribly exciting, sadly.
