We’ve talked about Beidou’s Red Pepper and Little Pepper devices quite a few times now. A couple of days ago, we’ve talked about the upcoming Red Pepper 9 handset which was said to sport a 5,000mAh battery on the inside. Well, the company has announced this handset, but the battery is somewhat smaller than initially thought, the Red Pepper 9 will ship with a 4,700mAh battery on the inside after all. Other than that, this is a very nice mid-range offering by this China-based company. Anyhow, let’s check out what it has to offer, shall we.
The Red Pepper 9 features a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable up to 32GB). This handset is powered by MediaTek’s MT6735 64-bit quad-core processor, a chip that is very popular in China these days and many OEMs are actually using it. The Red Pepper 9 also features a 13-megapixel camera on its back, and a 5-megapixel snapper up front. As previously mentioned, this device will ship with a 4,700mAh battery on the inside, which should be more than powerful enough to get you through the day no matter how intensively are you using your phone. This unit would be powerful enough even if the phone sported a much higher-end internals and higher-res display, it will be interesting to see how well will the battery perform on this thing. The Red Pepper 9 comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop pre-installed with Beidou’s skin on top of Google’s OS. The phone measures 144.8 x 71 x 10.6mm and weighs 167.8 grams.
The Red Pepper 9 is made out of plastic, and its bezels are not that big, quite on the contrary, the side bezels are quite thin. The circular capacitive button is available below the display, similar to the one on ZTE’s handsets actually. The LED flash is located below the camera sensor on the back, and it also offers a rear-facing loudspeaker. How much does this thing costs? Well, the phone is already listed in China, and it seems like it’s priced at 1,499 Yuan ($242). This doesn’t exactly make it the most affordable mid-ranger of similar specs around, but it’s a solid device nonetheless.
