Cyanogen Partners With Playphone To Bring App To Cyanogen OS

Over the past year, Cyanogen has been making some interesting moves. It was about this time last year when they partnered up with OnePlus to launch the OnePlus One. This effectively saw the first major roll out of the commercial variant of their operating system, Cyanogen OS. Well, since this time last year, Cyanogen OS has undergone quite a few changes and moves. It is now becoming far more widely available after being introduced on a couple more devices from launch and not to mention, has since been updated to be in line with Lollipop through Cyanogen OS 12.

However, a number of the changes that have (or are) occurring with Cyanogen OS which seem to be grabbing the headlines, is the various partnerships the company seems to be consistently announcing. Cyanogen has recently been going through their funding rounds and these have led to a number of high-profile investors backing the company. Not to mention, following their “android without Google” words, Cyanogen have also been announcing a number of strategic partnerships that will see their OS come with a number of pre-installed apps and services. For instance, the company has already announced the partnership with Boxer for email services and more recently, TrueCaller as a dialer alternative. Now it seems Cyanogen are announcing their next partnership which is a rather interesting one.

The latest announcement sees Cyanogen partner with Playphone. For those unfamiliar with Playphone, this app is like an app store app but with a much greater focus on games and especially social-based games. As such, it is likely that Cyanogen OS running devices will come with the app pre-installed. However, it is not entirely clear if this will hit all existing Cyanogen OS devices, in all markets. The wording used by SVP of Global Partnerships and Distribution of Cyanogen Inc, Vikram Natarajan, suggests this will be more aimed towards emerging market Cyanogen OS devices. According to Natarajan, “Our partnership with Playphone provides a great channel for mobile game discovery and engagement in some of the fastest growing markets.” Further adding, “Our joint focus on emerging markets will bring highly engaging social gaming experiences to players in these regions.” Those interested in knowing more can read the press release in full by clicking the source link below.
