Featured Review: TYLT RIBBN Car Charger

Over the past year or two, we’ve reviewed quite a few accessories from TYLT, including wireless chargers, different cases, and even stickers to enable Qi Wireless charging on the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4. But today we have a car charger. However, it’s not just any car charger, it’s TYLT’s RIBBN car charger. So what makes this so special? For one, it’s a flat cable – hence the name “Ribbon” – which keeps the cable from getting all tangled up in the car. That’s the last thing you should be doing in the car, untangling your car charger’s cable.

The Ribbon is actually fairly thick, which makes it a bit more durable than some of these other car chargers out there that are around $5-10. It seems to be quite long, but after using it in the car, it actually is about the same length as the Anker car charger I have, and have used for a few months. TYLT does sell it with either a micro USB or Lightning cable, depending if you’re using an Android or Windows Phone vs an iOS device. However, there is also a USB port on this one, so you can add another micro USB cable to charge a tablet or another smartphone. Or just add a Lightning cable if you picked up the micro USB version. There is a price difference. We’re looking at $39.99 for the micro USB version and $49.99 for the Lightning cable version.

TYLT offers the RIBBN car charger in a few colors. Which include blue, red, yellow and black. While the RIBBN isn’t the cheapest car charger out there, or even close to the cheapest, it is actually worth it. If you charge your phone in the car a lot, you’ve probably gone through a few car chargers in your time. While we haven’t had the RIBBN long enough to see how it’ll last through lots of usage, it does appear to be a bit more durable and likely to last longer than a lot of the others out there. Right now it’s only available on TYLT’s website, which you can grab it from this link.
