Lenovo’s buyout of Motorola Mobility was approved late last year, around the end of October. And since then the Motorola and Lenovo teams have been hard at work making their future smartphones and following their roadmap. Lenovo is a very popular brand in Asia. Maybe not as popular as Xiaomi or Huawei, but in the mobile space they are still quite popular. We’d love to see some of Lenovo’s smartphones make their way out west to Europe and North America. But it looks like that’s not happening just yet.
Recently, Lenovo’s CEO sat down for an interview and pretty much confirmed that the first Motorola and Lenovo smartphone would be released as soon as this summer. Stating “we have many new models in development with the Moto brands”, continuing “So you may see in summer us launching some very exciting products, including phones and watches.” The CEO also stated that the company is paying particular attention to the camera on this new smartphone. Which isn’t the first time we’ve heard that, and it’s definitely a weak point for Motorola.
Motorola has never really had a smartphone with a great camera, while the Motorola Droid Turbo had a good camera, it was a bit slow. Particularly when using HDR. There are rumors floating around that we might be seeing some interesting features with the camera, and more bells and whistles. Something that Motorola has done away with in recent years. Keeping the Moto X camera pretty empty, and easy to use. As long as the companies keep the UI clean and easy to use these features, it should be a pretty good experience.
But that leads us to wonder, what is the name of this new smartphone? Will Lenovo continue on with the current naming, and do Moto X (2015)? Quite possible, or they could start an entirely new brand, considering Motorola will be a brand owned by Lenovo. The company’s are saying the new smartphone will be out later this summer, so we have a few more months of leaks and reports before we see the official device. And we can’t wait.
