The Samsung Galaxy S6 integrates some of the best or more powerful technology out there in a design that needed to be improved by using premium materials instead of plastic that was used in the previous generations of the phone. The company also decided to use their own Exynos 7420 processor instead of one of Qualcomm’s offerings which may or may not have been because of the overheating issues that the Snapdragon 810 has been having. Anyway, the results in benchmark tests seem to be very favorable for the in-house made processor along the 3 GB of DDR4 RAM available. The company also had to tweak the TouchWiz UI, removing some features considered unnecessary in favor of a smoother experience, and once again, with good results.
While good scores in benchmark tests usually reflect a solid performance, what’s even more important is how devices perform in everyday tasks such as opening apps, documents or gaming. That’s exactly what is being tested in a report made by Tom’s Guide. The phones that were tested include the Galaxy S6, the Apple iPhone 6, HTC One M9, LG G4, Motorola’s Nexus 6 and the Asus ZenFone 2, whose price is significantly lower than the rest of the phones. The test consists in 9 stages including opening PDF files, loading the camera, gaming performance, video editing, 4 benchmark tests and the speed of their Wi-Fi connectivity.
The clear winner was the Galaxy S6, outperforming the rest of the phones in 6 tests including all of the daily tasks except in the camera opening time and 2 of the benchmark tests. Surprisingly, the LG G4 came in second place with the fastest camera opening time and with the highest score in one of the benchmark tests, while including the Snapdragon 808 processor which is not the latest. The iPhone 6 came in third thanks to its solid performance, especially in gaming, despite being the oldest phone of the competition. The One M9 came in fourth place, which actually includes the high-end Snapdragon 810 processor, but only in the graphics test it performed better than the rest. Google’s Nexus 6 should be a showcase for how the Android OS is meant to look and feel, unfortunately, with its rather old Snapdragon 805 processor, it got the fifth place. Finally, the ZenFone 2 has the most amount of RAM at 4 GB and an Intel Atom processor, and while it performs well in the mundane tasks, the results in the benchmark tests made it the sixth and last place. Here are the videos of the daily tasks tests, you can check the rest of the performance tests at the source.
