Samsung has always been very good at marketing their smartphones, even if some of their advertisements attack other companies or if they use cheesy puns, they really seem to work as they sell millions of phones. Of course, they wouldn’t miss the chance of promoting in every way possible their newest flagship phones, the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge. Aside from the double-curved screen of the Galaxy S6 Edge, we wouldn’t consider any of the features of these phones truly innovative, as they had all been seen before, although it is nice to see them integrated in a single device and with the way they improved the industrial design of the phones and the use of better materials for more durability certainly help them sell really well.
The advertising campaign has included ads to promote the screen, which admittedly, is one of the best ones you could get in a phone as the AMOLED technology on the 5.1-inch display produces vividly colored pictures and its Quad HD resolution makes up for very sharp images. They’ve also praised the design, particularly the one on the Galaxy S6 Edge by showing the complex process of building it. They’ve also promoted the phone’s wireless charging capabilities, a feature that is not new by any means, but it is far from popular even in flagship devices. In one of their latest ads, they not only boast on this last feature which is certainly lacking in the iPhone 6, but they also mention that the Galaxy S6 takes wider selfies than that phone too.
Now there’s a new ad that focuses on the wider front-facing camera included in the Galaxy S6. It features a bunch of people looking all sorts of weird with their selfie sticks (let’s face it, they do look weird in real life) or getting super cramped in order to fit in the picture. Then, one of the guys takes a Galaxy S6 and everybody fits into the picture while looking happy. The front-facing camera takes up to 5-megapixel resolution pictures and its wide-angle lens captures 120° of the field of view and its f/1.9 aperture capture more light for better pictures in low-light situations plus there’s an HDR mode on this camera too. Of course, Samsung is not the only company that’s been paying attention in this department, Sony’s Xperia Z3+ also features a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with a 25 mm lens and let’s not forget the Xperia C4 which also includes an LED flash on the front, the LG G4 has an 8 megapixel one and HTC used its Ultrapixel technology in this camera in the One M9 and they have released phones with 13-megapixel front-facing cameras with flash.
