Huawei P7 Looks To Be Getting Android 5.1 Soon

Huawei has been creating interesting devices in recent times, the P8 lineup and the Huawei Watch both feature premium materials and some of the best industrial designs out there. Still, last year’s flagship, the Huawei P7 still looks very good and offers a solid performance. A lot of attention was put into the design, as its patterned glass back was made by a complex process involving 7 layers and the subtle curve on the bottom of the phone creates some continuity along the front and back. It was one of the first phones to integrate a solid front-facing camera with an 8-megapixel resolution and a 5-element lens. This phone even included a Thermal Gel Cooling System which controlled the temperature in a more efficient way and saved battery as less power was consumed. All of these features are housed in a 6.5 mm thick body.

Now users who own the Huawei P7 or are considering buying it, as it can be acquired for around $300 making it a solid buy, can rest assured that this device will get the latest version of the Android OS. This is not surprising, as the company had said that the phone would get Lollipop, but the timeframe was rather ambiguous. The P7 currently runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat) and it looks as though it will be updated directly to Android 5.1, meaning it will skip Android 5.0 completely. What’s more, it looks like it could be arriving  soon, as users from Italy and Spain can register to become Beta testers of this new version. EMUI 3.1 runs on top of the latest version of Android, bringing the same experience that can be found on the newer Huawei P8, which oddly enough, doesn’t follow the design language introduced with Lollipop and features a lot of transparent elements.

The rest of the specs of the P7 include a 5-inch Full HD display protected by Gorilla Glass 3, a quad-core HiSilicon Kirin 910 processor clocked at 1.8 GHz, along with 2 GB of RAM. The 16 GB of internal memory can be expanded by Micro SD (up to 64 GB) and the main camera features a 13-megapixel BSI sensor with LED flash and auto focus.
