It was just a few days ago that Axon Phone had sent out an invitation to the media in New York City about the upcoming launch of the brand’s first ever device. PCMag did a bit of digging around, and found the brand to be a division of ZTE, who’ve been desperate to break into the high-margin consumer market after having spent years being a white box OEM for carriers around the world. Towards that end, the company has already introduceda new brand called Nubia, and launched a number of phones under the brand including the flagships Nubia Z9 and the Z9 Pro.
The upcoming brand from ZTE meanwhile, is scheduled to launch on July 14th as per the aforementioned invitation, which made it abundantly clear that the phone was going to be targeted primarily at the US market. With some press renders of the device already having leaked earlier, we have now also gotten our hands on some close-up views of the alleged Axon phone as an account holder on Chinese social networking website Weibo, going by the handle KJuma, has leaked some images of what looks the plastic back panel of what he claims to be the upcoming Axon Phone. The device was rumored to feature a dual rear camera setup, and while the latest images do show two clear cutouts on the back cover of the device, only one looks like it could be a circular camera hole, while the other one is square, giving rise to speculations about the possible presence of a fingerprint scanner.
While there is no information on the processor and display of the device, the phone is rumored to ship with 4 GB of RAM, HiFi acoustics and a dual LED flash on the rear. The primary camera is also said to ship with the ability to shoot in 4K resolution. The phone is slated to launch with Android 5.0 Lollipop out the box and may feature dual front speakers, in a style popularized by HTC’s flagship devices. While the details about the upcoming device is still patchy at best, the launch is just a couple weeks away, so hopefully, there will be more leaks between now and then, giving us more information on what we may expect from ZTE’s Axon.
