Meizu is one of the more interesting China-based companies. This smartphone OEM did a great job last year, they released three really compelling devices and with the help of those units managed to increase their sales. Meizu’s is constantly growing, and even though it still doesn’t have the sales number of the biggest Chinese smartphone manufacturers, they might get there in the coming years. Meizu has released the M2 Note mid-range handset recently, and we knew that they’ll hold yet another event at the end of this month thanks to our sources. We did not, however, know when will that event be held, until today, read on.
The company has sent us an invite to the event in Beijing on June 30th (check out the provided image), during which they’ll announce their new flagship, the Meizu MX5. The company basically confirmed that the device will be made out of metal in this invitation, but we already kind of knew that. Anyhow, this event will be held at China National Convention Center in Beijing at 5:30PM (local time) / 5:30AM EST / 2:30AM PST. We’ll be covering this event live from the show floor, so mark your calendars and let’s see what Meizu has to offer.
The Meizu MX5 has already been certified in China, and according to the certification documents, the device will sport a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) AMOLED display along with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of non-expandable internal storage. MediaTek’s Helio X10 (MT6795) 64-bit octa-core processor will reportedly power on this handset, and a 3,150mAh battery has also been mentioned. The 20-megapixel camera will be located on the back of this handset, and a 5-megapixel sensor will be available up front. Android 5.0 Lollipop will come pre-installed on the Meizu MX5 with the company’s Flyme UI installed on top of it. The MX5 will support 4G LTE connectivity, will measure 146 x 74.6 x 7.9mm and weight 147 grams.
Keep in mind that the aforementioned spec sheet doesn’t have to be 100% accurate, but it does come from TENAA (China’s equivalent to the FCC). Anyhow, the launch date is less than 2 weeks away, so the device will arrive soon. If any additional details leak before the event, we’ll make sure to let you know.
