Google and their Play Store are known for offering a bunch of stuff for free. The Play Store routinely offers a selection of albums or songs and even an occasional movie. However, apps dropping to free is not something that often happens on the Play Store. In fact, apps being giving away for free (and not a change in price by the developer) is much more up Amazon’s street. In fact, Amazon seems to be pretty much the leader at giving away their content, with the online retailer giving away an app for free every day. Not to mention, they also routinely oversee a massive free app giveaway, which typically sees a number of games and apps dropping down to free for a limited time. Also not forgetting, Apple seem to give out a free app of the week, each week. Not quite in Amazon’s league with their daily giveaway, but still, once a week is better than none a week.
As mentioned, Google does not do this sort of thing as a rule. Part of the reason why, is due to the way in which the Play Store operates, as it does not easily allow developers to switch a price and then be able to switch it back again. Although, this is rumored to be a thing Google are working on introducing sometime in the future. Well, it seems that Google might actually now be planning on doing a weekly app giveaway. A new feature which has been spotted seems to suggest Google are planning on offering a free app each week.
By heading over to the Play Store, you will see a ‘Family Fun’ banner and once this is clicked on, the link opens another page which does clearly detail the free app of the week promotion. Interestingly, this one comes with the ‘By PBS Kids” slogan attached and as such presumably is in conjunction with PBS Kids. It is currently not clear, if this will be a weekly promotion, is a PBS only thing or will be available again. However, if you do fancy picking up Daniel Tiger Grr-ific Feelings for free (was previously $2.99) then head over to the Play Store.
