Prototype Of Motorola's Upcoming Entry-Level Phone Leaked

It was only earlier this month, that we saw some new leaks about the next-generation Moto X, which Motorola is scheduled to launch later this year. The phone is said to come in two different sizes, with one featuring a fingerprint scanner. Today however, another alleged Motorola smartphone was leaked on the net. A new picture circulating on Chinese social networking site Weibo is said to be of the third-generation Moto G, the company’s mid-range warrior. While there is absolutely nothing else to go by other than the claim of the poster, the fact remains, the second-generation Moto G is getting a bit long in its tooth, and is all set for a replacement any time soon. So it wouldn’t actually be surprising if this was indeed the next Moto G.

The photo shows the rear of the device, with its plastic back cover, and the one thing that immediately strikes you as different about this new model as opposed to the previous generation Motorola models, is the way the rear camera module is integrated into the body with its dual LED flashes. This is a design we’ve already seen in the leaked images of the phone released last week, said to be of the third generation Motorola flagship, the Moto X. While the photograph doesn’t give us any more ideas about the upcoming phone, the person who posted the image on Weibo also mentioned that the phone has the model number XT1543, and will ship with the Snapdragon 410 chipset from Qualcomm, with a quad-core processor clocked at 1.4 GHz. The poster also says, the phone will feature a 5-inch 720p HD display, and will come with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box. The device is also supposed to ship with 1GB RAM and 8GB of storage, which will be expandable via a microSD card. The rear camera on the smartphone is said to have a 13MP sensor, and the front camera is said be of the 5MP variety.

At this stage with everything still up in the air, we’ll have to take this rumor for what it is. While this leaked spec sheet is plausible, it looks distinctly lackluster for a 2015 mid-ranger. So the leaked device could very well also be the next entry-level Moto E for all we know, seeing as most entry-level phones have already started shipping with the Snapdragon 410 with 2GB RAM, 16GB storage and 5-inch 720p displays. In any case, the Moto G 2014 already ships with a 5-inch 720p display, 1GB RAM and the Snapdragon 400, so it wouldn’t be much of an upgrade anyways. We’ll just have to wait to find out the whole truth, rather than speculating. The pictures shown below meanwhile indicate the device will come with options for interchangeable back covers.
