Rumor: Galaxy S6 Edge Plus to Feature 5.7-inch Display

Just as with the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy S5, rumors about an improved ‘Plus’ version of the Galaxy S6 have been swirling for a month or so at this point. The general consensus is that Samsung is preparing a Plus version of the Galaxy S6 Edge, rather than the standard Galaxy S6, which would make sense considering that the Galaxy S6 Edge has arguably been the driving force behind the duo’s success so far. We’ve heard reports of a new and improved processor being used under-the-hood, a larger display and more. SamMobile now has what they’re calling information from their “insiders” that’s pointing to a larger 5.7-inch display in the new Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.

As the report says, the device is apparently to be basically a larger version of the Galaxy S6 Edge, which features a 5.1-inch display with curves down the left and right-hand sides of the display. Apparently, Samsung is working on a larger, 5.7-inch version of the Galaxy S6 Edge to be launched during the third quarter of this year. Another tidbit of information is that the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is to launch with Android 5.1.1 out of the box, which would make a lot of sense as the latest version of Android has been out for some time now and we’re sure that Samsung is looking to squash any left over bugs in Android 5.0.2.

Producing a Galaxy S device with such a large display seems like a strange move for Samsung to take, not because larger phones aren’t popular, but because it would obviously eat into the Galaxy Note line’s appeal. Samsung have always known how to produce, market and sell larger smartphones and they arguably created the segment that has become a runaway success in parts of Asia. It would perhaps make sense to make a Galaxy Note Edge with a dual-edged display at that sort of size, rather than further diluting the Galaxy S branding. This could be what all these rumors are pointing to of course, and would paint a logical progression from last year’s Galaxy Note Edge. Either way, 2015 still has Samsung surprises left in store for us, and IFA 2015 in September should be when we’ll find out everything about the new Galaxy Note line.
