Rumor: OnePlus 2 Launch Price Same As OnePlus One

As the long-awaited launch of the OnePlus 2 continues to inch closer, some details are finally starting to be revealed. It was only this morning when OnePlus confirmed that the OnePlus 2 will indeed come sporting the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. For those unfamiliar with the 810, this is a highly contentious processor with many reports detailing that it runs too hot. As such and in spite of all the indications pointing towards the OnePlus 2 coming loaded with the 810, many were still unsure if OnePlus would proceed with such a choice. Well, they have now confirmed this and also took the opportunity to reassure users that the performance of the follow-up OnePlus device, will not suffer from heat issues.

Of course, what is probably of most interest to those following OnePlus 2 news, will be the price. This was essentially one of the driving forces of the OnePlus One which offered users top of the range specs coupled with a price which was half of that of some of the current flagship devices. At the time of launch, this equated to $299 for the 16GB variant and $349 for the 64GB variant. However, over the last few months, indications have pointed to an increased price for the OnePlus 2, compared to the One.

Well, last week saw a report emerge detailing that a retailer had begun listing the One with a 1,999 Yuan price. In U.S. terms, this is equated to $322, which is significantly less than what had been expected. Following on from this point, a new report has emerged today from Android Pit stating they have been informed by a “source from inside OnePlus”, that the OnePlus 2 will come sporting a price very near to last week’s figure. According to the source, the OnePlus 2 will come in at exactly the same price as the OnePlus One did. That is, $299 for the lower storage unit (unconfirmed as to whether this will be 16GB again or 32GB) and $349 for the higher storage unit. Of course, these are not confirmed prices and should therefore not be taken as such. However, this and last week’s posts do seem to suggest OnePlus are going to try and price the OnePlus 2 as competitively as they can.
