Rumor: Samsung Working On A Premium Galaxy S7 Handset

Samsung has already showcased their flagship smartphones for 2015, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge have been announced during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona back in March. The company still has to announce the Galaxy Note 5 phablet which will be announced in September during IFA in Berlin. That being said, it seems like Samsung is planning to announce yet another premium offering in order to compete with Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6S. Anyhow, let’s see what’s what, shall we.

A new report surfaced in Korea, suggesting that Samsung plans to announce the Galaxy S7 handset in the second half of this year. According to a South Korean media site, Newsis, Samsung will announce this handset, and we’re looking at a premium flagship material device here. As it’s always the case with rumors, take this with a grain of salt, because the Galaxy Note 5 is coming in a couple of months, and the Galaxy S7 seems like it doesn’t fit in anywhere at the moment. Samsung have their release cycle where they announce their flagship smartphone in March, and their premium phablet offering arrives in September. It is possible that the company plans to introduce the Galaxy S7 somewhere in between, or perhaps at the very end of the year, but considering we really don’t have much info regarding this device, we can’t exactly place it.

We would easily say that this won’t happen before, but considering that the company decided to announce not one, but two flagship smartphones in March, anything is possible. Speaking of which, Samsung is expected to ship out 45 million Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge units according to yesterday’s report. This number is significantly lower than some analysts have been expecting, but still really great for Samsung. For comparison’s sake, if this info is accurate, Galaxy S6 sales might match the sales of the Galaxy S4 two years ago.

Anyhow, there you have it, it seems like Samsung might announce yet another unexpected premium smartphone before the end of the year. Either way, we’ll let you know if any additional info surfaces, stay tuned.
