It is kind of hard to find a smartphone that has every feature a user might need, some might have a powerful camera and screen, but it is now more common that they lack a memory card slot to add more memory that the high-resolution photos and videos might take or the capacity of the non-removable batteries included is just not enough. Or how about if users need a waterproof and durable design without compromising in other areas? Saygus, a startup company based on Salt Lake City, Utah wanted to address all those issues adding a bunch of features, even from the military devices, in every department and announced the V SQUARED in this year’s CES. They claim to have 15 features that haven’t been implemented in a smartphone yet.
The phone was praised in the event and it could be pre-ordered a little later, but it has recently appeared as an Indiegogo campaign and it might have been the presence the company had in the E3 showing the phone, but the campaign has actually reached its goal with time to spare and apparently they will start shipping the phones in the Fall. Now the company has released a lot of videos explaining all of these features. The almost bezel-less screen measures 5 inches and has Full HD resolution with dual light sensors and it is said to be viewable under sunlight. It’s equipped with the rather old, but capable Snapdragon 801 processor along 3 GB of RAM and it runs on Android 5.1. They really invested in the cameras as both include OIS and Auto Focus, the resolution of the main one is 20.7 megapixels capable of 4K video recording and the one in the front is 13 megapixels.
As for the more innovative features, the hardware is IPX7 certificated so it can be immersed in that liquid up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. The internal memory is 64 GB but they added two memory card slots each one for up to 200 GB cards, so the total storage could be 464 GB. In the audio department, the front-facing stereo speakers are enhanced by Harman/Kardon technology including 3D sound. The battery capacity is 3,100 mAh and it features power saving modes, plus it is removable. The phone will be able to stream HD content lag-free over a 60 GHz dongle. Finally, it features technologies that are not that usual such as a fingerprint scanner on the side, wireless charging (Qi), IR Transceiver to control other electronics and even the new USB Type-C connector is supported.
