As the Indian smartphone market continues to grow, big name brands like Sony have started to realize that it’s a market they cannot afford to ignore. While Samsung and Micromax continue to battle it out for the top spot in the country, Sony and HTC have proven successful draws, along with Motorola which came out of nowhere two years ago with the Moto G and then the Moto E. Sony offers a range of mid-range devices that aren’t exactly earth-shattering, but offer decent performance as well as key Sony features that have proven popular in the region. They also offer their high-end Xperia Z devices as well, albeit at costs that often many simply can’t afford.
Now, it would seem that Sony is getting ready to launch the Xperia Z3+ in the region. Or at least that’s what the invitation received by Android Advices would suggest. Sony is asking people to reserve June 26th in New Delhi for an event, however there’s no information from Sony on what the device or event could be all about. Those in the know will remember that the Xperia Z3+ was originally launched in Japan as the Xperia Z4, and then renamed as the Xperia Z3+ for markets elsewhere. The device is an evolution of the Xperia Z3 and features a 5.2-inch 1080p display, along with an apparently revised Snapdragon 810 and 32GB of internal storage and Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.
There’s a good chance that this launch could be for something else, as there have been rumors that Sony have been working towards devices aimed squarely at the Indian market. Whatever this event is for however, Sony will need to bring something that really impresses the Indian consumer, as devices like the Yu Yureka and Yu Yuphoria have given traditional names like Samsung and HTC something to worry about. There are 10 days between then and now, so perhaps we’ll hear something more from the event before it actually gets underway. Either way, Sony has something new for the Indian market, and fans will be excited to see just what’s coming.
