Xiaomi Sold Over 13 Million Redmi 2 And Redmi 2A Units

Xiaomi has managed to sell 61 million smartphones last year, and they plan to improve upon that by the end of 2015. Xiaomi has announced that they plan to sell 100 million smartphones this time around, but their goal is actually 80-100 million. This China-based smartphone OEM has announced quite a few smartphones this year already, but Xiaomi still has to announce a number more, Redmi Note 2 and Mi 5 for example. That being said, we have some new info regarding Xiaomi sales thus far, read on.

The company’s President, Lei Jun, has posted some interesting info on his official Weibo (Chinese social network) account. According to the company’s CEO, Xiaomi has managed to sell over 13 million Redmi 2 and Redmi 2A smartphones in approximately 5 months. The Xiaomi Redmi 2 was announced back in January, and Redmi 2A arrived a couple of months ago. The Redmi 2 is a direct successor to one of the company’s best-selling smartphones, the Redmi 1S. The Redmi 2A, on the other hand, is an even more affordable smartphone than the Redmi 2, and it now costs only 499 Yuan ($80) in China, and has really solid specs for said price. This handset was actually discounted from $97 to only $80 a couple of days ago, and according to reports, the company managed to sell 300,000 units on that day alone.

That being said, these two devices have just joined the Mi 2, Mi 3, MI 4, the Redmi 1S and Redmi Note in the ‘over 10 million units sold’ club. As you all know by now, Xiaomi is officially selling their smartphones in Asia only at the moment, so these numbers are even more impressive if you take that into consideration. Xiaomi does plan to expand outside of Asia though, Brazil expansion is already in motion, and Xiaomi might start selling their devices in South America by the end of this year. This Chinese smartphone OEM will also open assembly plants in India soon, which will quite probably affect their sales number in that Asian country as well, the second biggest smartphone market in the world. There you have it, Xiaomi is doing really well this year as well, and it will be interesting to see how many smartphones can they sell before the year ends.
