XOLO BLACK Teased for Flipkart Release

India is a fast growing market with a unique landscape for how its devices get sold.  There’s still the old brick-and-mortar physical store model, with carrier branded and exclusive phones to be found if you’re looking for them, but there’s another model that’s been incredibly successful and is fast catching on with other manufacturers too.  This is the flash-sale online-only model with brands that are generally exclusive to the medium.  It got popularized by Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi where they would put up tens of thousands of phones for sale at once, with all the stock being gobbled up nearly instantly.  This creates demand for the product that far outweighs the negatives of this type of sale and has lots of manufacturers watching.

Xolo Black is a new brand designed specifically for this type of sales medium and it’s going to be launching soon exclusively on Flipkart, India’s largest online retailer.  Today Xolo teased the Black brand with its first phone and a rather interesting trailer too.  Starting with something that looks more like a clothing ad rather than one for the latest smartphone things quickly become more clear as the tagline “Experience the design that is stain free and smudge free” is flashed on screen.  The back of the actual phone is then shown and it reveals some surprising things about the design.  For one the stain and smudge free design is particularly interesting because the back is clearly a shiny glass or plastic, a material that’s never been known to feature such qualities.

On top of the the sheen on the edge around the phone gives the illusion of being metal, something that could truly set it apart from most of the cheaper build phones that end up in online-only flash sales.  On top of that there’s no denying the dual cameras on the back clearly designed to give a 3D viewing experience from pictures taken with the device.  This would likely end up making its way into other features, possibly something like Intel’s RealSense depth camera technology or even HTC’s duo-camera experience where it identifies areas to put effects and filters in.  We’re looking at a price likely under RS 15,000 and of course a release very soon, but we’ll bring you the actual date when it’s revealed.
