There is an all-time awareness of security on wireless and mobile devices – hackers are everywhere just waiting for that opportunity to steal your personal information. The best advice is to not download anything suspicious or from a third party vendor – but even going through Google Play, malicious malware can sometimes sneak through. It is more important than ever to make sure you protect you device with some kind of anti-virus app – you would never run your PC without some form of protection, so why not on your smartphone or tablet.
360 Security, a mobile antivirus and performance application for Android, just announced the results of their “Android Security Survey 2015.” This survey takes a look at Android users to try and determine their knowledge, interest and buying habits when it comes to security issues. The survey was conducted informally by 360 Security, by way of the social media channels, such as Facebook and Twitter. Data was compiled from more than 100 Android users, however, respondents were not required to answer every question.
Some of the main highlights of the survey – it shows that two-thirds of the Android users are aware of some weaknesses in the Android OS…although in Android’s defense, MANY of those issues were or are being addressed. Over 90-percent of those surveyed thought that mobile security is “very important.” Although, nearly 50-percent of the respondents are not using a security app or are unsure if they have one…and one-out-of-two users did not now they needed an app. It is also unusual that as important a topic this is, more than 80-percent said they would not spend any more than $4.99 on a security app and 44-percent of the respondents think it should be FREE.
The top concerns from respondents included 27-percent were worried about untrustworthy apps. 20-percent are worried about making online payments through their mobile device…a trend that is likely to skyrocket in the next couple of years. Hackers were only feared by 13-percent of the respondents…one I thought would be higher on their list of concerns. Additional concerns were about signing-on, Wi-Fi connections and personal data leakage.
The trend now is for a security app to not only include an antivirus, but also include features that help optimize your files – removes junk files, temporary files, and old apk files – to help boost the performance of your device.
