A couple of weeks ago a new service launched called Jumptuit. This was released for the wider tech industry (and not just android) but one of the main features was its compatibility with Android TV. For those that missed the launch announcement, Jumptuit (Jump To It) literally allows you to jump from one cloud-based service to another without having to leave the app. As such, Jumptuit effectively works as a shortcut for all your devices and storage locations.
The service might not sound like a massively useful feature, but it is. Although, you have access to your Cloud, Drive, YouTube and everything else from your smartphone, knowing what is on any of these apps and services at any given time, requires some extensive mental juggling. This is where Jumptuit really comes to life. It allows you direct and searchable access to all of your features. Therefore, you do not need to know that a certain image is on your OneDrive or that receipt is on your Google Drive. With Jumptuit, you can just search for the file and the app will search all of your files. Not to mention, this is a cross-platform app so you can use it on pretty much any device that you might have…and any operating system.
After testing, the app world to a reasonably good degree. It does do everything that it sets out to do and allows you to search across all of your cloud-based services. It was easy to navigate and the app was very fluid and especially for a first version.
In fact, the adding of the cloud services is one of the best features of Jumptuit and added them was as easy as a couple of clicks. As such, if you are looking for an all in one access point for all your services then this will do the job and pretty well.
Not to mention, it really does allow you to add a massive selection of services…too many to actually list.
One of the real benefits noted personally was the compatibility of Google Drive. If you own an Android TV device, then you will be aware that Google Drive does not work natively with Android TV yet. We have discussed that you can sideload Drive and it does work fine, but its function is limited. Especially if you are playing media. For instance, if you store any video files on your Drive, then when you access them through the sidelaoded app, you lose all the functionality you would expect from a media player. You cannot pause, fast-forward or otherwise. This is not the case with Jumptuit. In fact, you won’t even have to sideload Drive. Once connected, all your files and media formats will be accessible and once playing, will offer all the player controls that are missing from Drive.
That said, there are a couple of points to note. The first and big one is privacy. This app does want access to just about everything. Of course, that makes sense and presumably this is understood when you are looking for a service like this. Nevertheless, it is something you should be aware of.
There is also the issue of the functionality of the Android TV app. While you can use the app to access all your connected devices and services, you cannot really add to the services or delete anything from within the TV app. At least, this did not appear to be an obvious feature when being tested. Instead everything has to be done through the desktop website which was a little disappointing. The Android TV app is literally just an access point. That said, it does do exactly what you would want it to do and offer a direct and central point for all your storage sources.
