ARCHOS Unveil 50d Helium Smartphone Priced At £99

When it comes to portable devices, smartphones and tablets, there are a number of manufacturers who first spring to mind. HTC, Samsung, LG and even more recently the likes of Xiaomi and Huawei. All offer big offerings, which come sporting big specs and typically big prices. Well, less so for the likes of Xiaomi and Huawei. But the principle is the same, it is the common names who always spring to mind. One company who probably does not enter the thought race so often is ARCHOS, although they have been making a few announcements of late including their recent flagship offerings. Although they might not offer the latest or greatest specs, one thing that ARCHOS does look to be capitalizing on is the price point and on this point, ARCHOS have today unveiled the latest in their arsenal of budget friendly products.

The ARCHOS 50d Helium is their latest smartphone which has just been announced and comes sporting some modest specs. The 50d Helium comes with a 5-inch IPS display with a 1280 x 720 resolution. Inside, the 50d Helium comes equipped with 1GB RAM and powered by a Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor (clocked at 1.2GHz). In terms of memory, the 50d Helium comes as standard with 8GB internal storage and does offer the option of expansion through the included microSD card slot. Camera wise, the 50d Helium come equipped with a 13-megapixel rear camera which is coupled with a 5-megapixel front facing camera. Finishing up, the 50d Helium comes powered on a 2,100mAh battery, Dual-SIM, 4G LTE support and comes running on Android 5.1 out of the box. So although, this is not the be all and end all when it comes to specs, the camera features on offer are better than what you might expect and not forgetting that it comes running on Android 5.1, which is a lot better than a number of more high-profile smartphones out there.

Of course, the big selling point for the ARCHOS 50d Helium will be the price and this one is set to be released for only £99.99. Unfortunately though, ARCHOS have not provided any firm or exact details on when the device will be available to buy, other than sometime next month. Likewise, it seems there is no clear indication of which markets will see the 50d Helium arrive. That said, at this price point, if it hits your market, this might be an option to consider.
