Science Camp. It’s been a staple of the Summer for many kids for years on end, and while it will likely continue to be an institution for those who wish to learn about all the things science has to offer, in this day and age it would be almost impossible to imagine there not being an option for those who aren’t able to physically attend such events. Starting July 13th, Google is giving kids a new way to spend their Summer without having to ever leave their home. It’s a new program coming up called Camp Google, and it will be an online science camp for kids all happening through computer screens.
Will it provide the same hands-on approach as if your kids actually went to a Summer science camp? Will they learn as many things? That remains to be seen, but one thing is certain to make many parents happy about this new online learning experience which Google is turning on next week. It’s completely free to attend, and kids can basically “hop in any time” according to the landing page for Camp Google meaning they can sign on and dive into any learning experiences whenever they have the time. Unlike a physical science camp which actually costs money, kids will have the freedom to enjoy other parts of summer while being able to work with parents to set up the best time for them to engage with Camp Google’s activities, and that’s surely going to increase the popularity with interested kids and parents alike.
During Google’s month-long exploration of science, they will theme each week out of the four with a focus on a different part of science. Week 1 starts July 13th and will focus on the ocean, giving kids the opportunity to “dive down there” and explore what exists beneath the surface of the water. Following up Ocean Week is Space Week, then Nature Week, and finally Camp Google comes to an end with Music Week. There will likely be lots for kids to see and do each week during the camp, and to make things a little more fun kids can collect badges for completion and participation during each week’s theme. If you have kids and you think they might be interested in learning about all the cool things science includes, you can visit Camp Google’s main site by heading to the source, and check out the video below to see a brief display of what it’s all about.
