Hands On of the BLU Energy X Plus

Today, BLU announced a few new smartphones, one of those being the Energy X Plus. Have you ever had to turn off features of your phone to save battery and get through the day? Well BLU is aiming to solve that with this smartphone. They have included a 4,000mAh battery inside. Which is a bit smaller than what is in the BLU Studio Energy which they released earlier this year. There’s also a 5.5-inch 720p IPS display here along with MediaTek’s MT6582 processor, which will definitely help make this battery last a very long time.

The display here is a 5.5-inch IPS display, and it actually looks really nice. After using all these high-end smartphones, I can definitely see the pixels however. But to the untrained eye, you likely won’t see them. The build of the Energy X Plus is really good actually. It is plastic, but it’s made to look like metal. It also has some weight to it, obviously due to the 4,000mAh battery inside. It does support dual-SIM cards as well as a microSD card. Which is great considering it comes with just 8GB of onboard storage, however you do have about 5.27GB of storage available out of the box.

BLU has mostly a vanilla Android approach here. The only real changes are the icons, which are themed. Additionally, in settings there are also themed icons. All of this could likely be fixed by installing a third-party launcher. With this minimal skin, there is also no app drawer, instead all of your apps are on the screen. Much like a number of the Chinese manufacturers like to do. To be honest, I don’t really mind their skin all that much.

The BLU Energy X Plus is a really great smartphone, that will likely last you 2+ days, depending on your usage of course. And for just $139 from Amazon, it’s hard to find any real negatives at that price point. There is no 4G LTE here, unfortunately. We do have 4G HSPA+ though. Which for many people will be fast enough. You can find the BLU Energy X Plus on Amazon here.
