Hands-On With the Moto X Style

Today was a big day for Motorola and their fans the world over, not only did they announce a new Moto G, which is now more powerful and fully-featured, but they also announced two Moto X devices. The Moto X Style is the best of the best while the Moto X Play is a more pared down version, which regrettably won’t be making its way to the US. Instead, the Moto X Style, also known as the Moto X Pure, will be available starting this September with compatibility on every major US network, including full 4G LTE support thanks to ‘universal banding’. We were in attendance during the event in New York, and we’ve been able to spend some quality time with the Moto X Style and the new Moto G.

Here, we’re taking a look at the Moto X Style, which has gown considerably in size to offer a 5.7-inch Quad HD display, however in person last year’s Moto X (2014) doesn’t look that much smaller than the new version. The Style makes up for its large footprint with a look and feel that is undeniably ‘Moto’ and in the few colors we got shots of down below in the gallery (including that white and gold configuration) it looks good to us. The curved back and aluminium frame are much the same as they were last year, which should go a long way to making previous Moto X users feel at home with a much larger device.

Gone is the ring flash around the camera, but there is still a dual flash here and there’s now a flash around the front as well as the rear, thus making selfies even easier to take no matter the lighting. The larger footprint is the big takeaway from today, as a lot of users will be apprehensive of the Moto X Style. A 5.7-inch display like this is approaching Galaxy Note 4 territory in size, and that wasn’t what the original Moto X or the second-generation were about, but those upgrading will have to spend a little time with them to get a feel for the added size. Those interested can take a look in the gallery below.
