Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC has released a new commercial to highlight an offer that its flagship One M9 comes with – the Uh Oh protection plan. As part of the program, the company is including accidental damage to its warranty coverage for users in the US and Mexico. The offer entitles users to get a free replacement in case something goes wrong with their HTC One M9 through misuse, within the first 12 months of purchase. Water damage, cracked screen and carrier switch are but three of the scenarios included in the coverage. The company also offers $100 credit towards the purchase of your next HTC One if you don’t redeem the offer, which is open only to users in the US and Mexico, and only applies to the One M9 and the One M8 handsets bought after March 25th.
The offer is certainly a unique one, and it would be nice to see HTC extending the plan to users from around the world, and to more devices. Actually, more smartphone manufacturers would do well to rollout schemes like this, which would benefit users who have accidentally dropped their phones on a hard surface or spilled coffee on them, and are having to deal with a cracked screen or liquid damage. As for HTC, the company is struggling to stay afloat under mounting losses and needs its upcoming smartphone Aero to hit the target. Failing which, its future as an independent company might be in serious jeopardy.
Coming to the device itself, the HTC One M9 is the company’s latest flagship smartphone, and features a 5-inch Super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. The device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 MSM8994 SoC, which comes with an integrated octa-core 64-bit CPU and an Adreno 430 GPU. The device comes with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. The primary camera on the device comes with a 20 megapixel sensor, and is capable of recording 2160p videos at 30 fps and 1080p videos at 60 fps. The secondary camera comes with a 4 megapixel sensor, and can record 1080p videos at 30 fps. The device comes with Android 5.0 Lollipop with the company’s proprietary Sense UI 7.0 on top. The phone also comes with Cat.6 LTE and carries a non-removable 2840 mAh Lithium Polymer battery.
