Google’s Maps is one of the most well-known apps available. The app offers users the ability to navigate wherever they want, whenever they want and have up-to-date information. In fact, over the years the services have received a number of updates which make the feature much more intuitive. Not to mention, it is set to receive a number equally effective updates going forward. For instance, back at I/O, Google announced full and unrestricted offline use of Maps will be available later in the year. That said, the most recent update also added an interesting element to the maps feature and allowed users to receive notifications if they were running late somewhere and the destination (restaurant, retail etc) was likely to close before their scheduled time of arrival.
Well, the latest update for Maps is now available. In fairness, this one does not bring with it the type of functions already mentioned and in comparison will be quite minimal. That said, the update still is one which will improve the general user experience of Maps. In short, the big headline point is that Maps now allows users to hide any UI elements when using the app. Therefore, if you are gentle looking around for something to do or a place to go, you can activate the hide function which will remove the added tabs like ‘Search Nearby’ or the Google Search bar. This might sound trivial but what it does is open up maps so that you can view the entirety of a map on your full screen and not have the real estate space hindered by aspects like Search Nearby that you are not currently using.
