Mahesh Telecom have today announced the launch of a new handset, the Vivo V1, which is available from a choice of retail stores priced at Rs. 16,000 (approximately $250 or £160) in just one color, gold. The Vivo V1 is a dual 4G LTE SIM device with support for the Indian TDD B40 2,300 MHz and FCC B3 1,800 MHz bands. The smartphone is based around the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, which is a 64-bit, quad core, 1.2 GHz unit. The Snapdragon 410 is backed up by 2 GB of RAM and the device comes with 16 GB of internal storage, plus a MicroSD card slot that can take cards of 128 GB capacity. The device has a 5.0-inch, 720p resolution (this being, 1,280 by 720 pixels) IPS LCD panel. Around the back there’s a 13MP rear camera complete with auto focus and a flash, whilst on the front there’s a 5MP wide angle front facing camera, perfect for selfies and video calling. The chassis is constructed from a magnesium alloy and is just 6.78mm thick (thin?), containing a 2,300 mAh rechargeable battery.
As far as software goes, the Vivo runs Funtouch OS 2.1, which is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop and contains a number of showcase features, including a visitor mode for when you let people borrow your device, a super saver mode for extending the battery life. There’s a smart wake and smart unlock feature plus male and female beauty modes for the camera. The device has an automatic call recorder and eight off-screen gestures, although it is not certain quite how these are implemented.
As you can see from the specifications, the Vivo V1 is very much a mid-range device. The Snapdragon 410 System-on-Chip is something of an entry level SoC, but is paired up with a healthy 2 GB of main RAM for smooth multitasking. The 13 MP main camera plus the wide angle front facing camera are also positive news. The weakest item on the specification page is probably the relatively small battery capacity, at 2,300 mAh, which is the same as the Google Nexus 5 (and this device also has a 5.0-inch screen, although it is of a higher resolution at 1080p).
