Meizu has become one of the fastest growing smartphone OEMs in the world. This Chinese OEM has released a number of solid devices in the last year or so, and have managed to sell a ton of them. Meizu has actually released two handsets quite recently, the Meizu M2 Note and Meizu MX5. The former is a mid-range offering by the company, while the latter is Meizu’s new flagship. That being said, the company has already scheduled yet another event where they intend to release the Meizu M1’s successor, the M2. The M2 will be unveiled on July 29th in China, and we have yet another piece of information to share with you.
Not so long ago, several rumors suggested that the 8GB variant of Meizu M2 might cost 499 Yuan ($80), and that the company will price the 16GB model at 699 Yuan ($133). Well, the company’s VP, Li Nan, has actually shared a post on Weibo (Chinese social network) in order to set the record straight. Meizu’s VP has said that the M2 will cost at least 600 Yuan ($97, which will probably be its final price). Li Nan has also explained why is that, he said that the can’t go any lower than that otherwise they won’t be able to guarantee for the quality of the device. In other words, it’s impossible for the device to cost 400 Yuan ($64) and still be as good as this thing might be.
The Meizu M2 will reportedly sport a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display along with 2GB of RAM and 13-megapixel camera (Sony’s IMX214 sensor quite probably). MediaTek’s MT 6753 64-bit octa-core processor is expected to fuel this thing, and Android Lollipop will come pre-installed here with Meizu’s Flyme UI available on top of it. The Meizu M2 will basically look like a smaller variant of the Meizu M2 Note. The device will sport a physical home button below the display, though unlike Meizu M2 Note, this home button quite probably won’t double as a fingerprint scanner. The Meizu M2 will be an extremely affordable device and we have to manage our expectations, but if the company managed to offer MT6753 SoC, 720p display and 2GB of RAM in this package, that’s commendable. Anyhow, we’ll report back when additional details pop up.
