Email, although an extremely descriptive term does do exactly what it is tasked with doing. It allows you to send mail electronically. That said, in addition to saving you on those postage costs, the real benefit of email (over mail) is that it is instant. As quick as a flash, a mail is sent and received, read and maybe even responded to. In fact, as email has become so prevalent as a means of communication, it much more resembles text messages nowadays. You email someone with a question, they instantly respond, so do you and within a few minutes the email chain has become much more reminiscent of a text message conversation.
Well, it is this very notion that Microsoft are hoping to capitalise on, as the company has this morning announced the release of a new app dubbed ‘Send’ through the Microsoft Garage. Although, not so self-descriptive, Send looks to offer an even more text like experience but speeding up the process and time it takes to send an email. In fact, the emails (or messages) you send with Send do not even contain subject matters or lines. Not to mention, they are free from signatures, cell numbers attached and the likes. They are just a very quick way to send a message to an email contact.
According to the Microsoft Office Blog (where the app was announced), Send is designed to offer users a much more on-the-go emailing experience. The app is ideal to keep in (quick) contact with those whose phone numbers you do not have (or can’t recall) but whose email addresses you do have. You can whip out your phone, enter a message quickly and hit send and avoid the time it takes “to search your inbox, start a new thread, or even type out a subject line.” If you have an outlook account, then the conversation will also be automatically synced with your Outlook. If this sounds like something that will be of use to you, then you will have to wait for the android version. Microsoft have confirmed both the Android and Windows Phone versions are en route, but today only marks the launching of the iPhone version. Microsoft did not provide any firm details on when the android version will launch, simply stating “coming soon”.
