Motorola couldn’t keep its new phones a secret, granted, we got more leaks from the Moto G than any of the other phones as the company itself mentioned it was the biggest launch of their mid-range offering, but we actually got to see some pictures of the other phones as well. There was a change of strategy as the Moto X, which was the company’s flagship, got split between two devices, the Moto X Style and the Moto X Play. From those two phones, the former is now the true flagship, offering the better specs, while the latter falls into the upper mid-range category, but Motorola highlighted that the asking price for all of their new phones was one of the main points to focus.
The Moto X Play was said to launch in August, but it has appeared in the company’s site from some countries, offering a better look complete with specs and even the color combinations that would be available on Motorola’s customization tool Moto Maker. As it always has been, the front has only two color options, but the back is offered in 14 colors, all of them feature the new silicone finish and texture, so no other material options are being offered right now. The color accents, which change the metallic plate around the camera and the speaker grilles on the front of the device has 7 color options, so a total of 196 combinations are available for this phone. While no specific price was given it was said to cost $300 to $400 less than current flagship models and this particular model won’t be available on the US.
Some of the specs of the Moto X Play include a 5.5-inch display with Full HD resolution, an octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor powers the phone along 2 GB of RAM. There are 16 GB or 32 GB options of internal storage, but both support Micro SD cards to add more memory. The battery on this phone has a very large capacity, 3,630 mAh, so about 30 hours of mixed use can be expected. Motorola stated that they would improve their cameras as they have been rather weak offerings in their recent phones, so this one includes a 21-megapixel main camera and a 5-megapixel one on the front.
