Battery life in current mobile devices, particularly smartphones and smartwatches, is an issue that has not been properly addressed. As devices get slimmer, there’s less room to fit a battery with larger capacity and the screens keep getting bigger, so they require more energy. Of course newer processors and software optimizations help to consume less energy, but still most users will end up charging their smartphones every night. Also, phones with removable batteries are less common than ever, so carrying a spare is no longer an option. Additional hardware like portable battery packs with enough capacity seem to be a partial solution, as mobile technology is all about having fewer devices in our pockets.
A Chinese company seems to take this problem very seriously and is about to release a smartphone with a battery that contains a humongous capacity. The company is Oukitel, which was founded in 2007 with the intention of creating smart devices in stylish designs for everyday use. They have released a couple of phones and even a smartwatch, but their most distinguishable device will be the upcoming smartphone known as K10000, that’s a lot of zeros in there, but it actually makes reference to the capacity of the included battery, 10,000 mAh. That’s about 3 to 4 times the capacity offered by the average current smartphone and it’s even larger that the capacity of the batteries found in many tablets.
The rest of the specs won’t make this phone stand out from the rest as it includes a 5.5-inch screen with a somewhat dated HD resolution, it integrates a quad-core MediaTek MT6735 with 2 GB of RAM. The internal memory is 16 GB and it is said to run Android 5.1 out of the box. The cameras have 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel resolutions in the back and front, respectively. The dummy of the phone had been photographed recently, but now real-life photos emerge, sporting a very angular design with what seems to be a metallic frame as suggested by some screws and polycarbonate lines. It is unknown if the back is removable, although it probably will, as the right side of the phone features what seems to be the power button and volume rocker and no slots for SIM cards, unless that space is on the yet unseen left side.
