The Pebble was the first big smartwatch around and defined what many users really thought of a smartwatch to begin with. While the design and operation of the Pebble didn’t age as well as some out there would have liked, Pebble came back around again with the Pebble Time, a watch that addressed many of the desires and concerns from the original smartwatch. With this came a brand new interface and way to interact with the watch including more glanceable information and better support for notifications. Today Pebble is rolling out a firmware update for the Pebble Time that fulfills requests made via Twitter and other mediums as well as updates for the accompanying Android app.
Starting with the basic hardware functionality the Pebble Time now has more granular backlight control, including intensity of the light itself as well as time-out duration controls. Vibrations can now be adjusted for various types of notifications including calls, alerts and other notifications, and the default vibration setting has been toned down a bit to be less annoying all the time. Notifications themselves have been tweaked a bit and there’s now a handy dismiss all function for users tired of seeing their timelines cluttered. Users who had a hard time reading the screen as well as those wanting to fit more on it are in luck too, as Pebble has now included the ability to change the font size in many areas of the system. Last but certainly not least is official music support for all the most popular music apps including Pandora, Spotify, Songza and more, meaning native controls for these players as well as tweaked track display.
Not forgetting about the companion Android app Pebble has also issued the same 3.2.0 update for it, adding in some new features such as a search bar to help find watch apps and watch faces more easily. Miscellaneous improvements to the canned replies section of the app are in tow as well as bug fixes and stability improvements. Overall this is a pretty significant update and provides functionality that you’re not going to get elsewhere, even on Google’s amazing Android Wear platform.
