Public Beta Now Open for HERE Maps on Android

Nokia brought their popular HERE Maps to Android a few months ago, and today they have announced that there is now a public beta for the HERE Maps app. They are using Google Play’s Beta program as well, so you’ll need to join the Google Group to get access. It’s pretty simple. Hit the link in the source below to get to the Google Group, Join the group, visit the link in the description of the group to opt-in to the beta. Now you’ll just need to download the app from Google Play. It’s important to remember that you may not get the beta version right away, as it needs to register with Google Play Servers, so you might get a small update later on in the day.

Device requirements include Android 4.1 or higher, as well as 1GB of RAM or more. Additionally, HERE Maps only works on devices between 4 inches and 6.9 inches. Which should cover the majority of them.

While HERE Maps already works pretty well, the team is working on making the app better and adding new features. Of course, bug fixes are also being worked on. Using a beta program like this is great for them as they’ll be able to get feedback from their users very quickly and easily. That’s always a good thing with apps, as feedback is invaluable. Additionally, Nokia will be able to have a small group of beta testers willing to have a slightly unstable version of the app, to check out and make sure it’s ready to go before the stable release is out and available.

Since Google launched this beta feature in the Play Store back in 2014, we’ve seen many apps utilize the feature, including companies like Facebook and Twitter, and now we’re seeing Nokia doing the same with their mapping app, which works very well, and works in every country. So if you’d like to be one of the first to use new features in Nokia’s HERE Maps, be sure to sign up for the beta and opt-in as well.
