Xiaomi is China’s number one smartphone manufacturer, and this Asian company is also amongst top 5 smartphone OEMs in the world. That being said, Xiaomi isn’t only a smartphone manufacturer, this company manufactures smart wearables, phablets, all kinds of smart gadgets… and rumors have even stated that Xiaomi might be working on an electric car. Those rumors have popped up a while back, and we haven’t heard anything about it for months now. Well, we have some new info to share with you this time around, read on.
So, it seems like Xiaomi applied for a number of car-related patents in China. According to the source, this Chinese smartphone OEM has applied for about a dozen of such patents, and the application documents are also attached to the report. So, is Xiaomi really working on a ‘smart’ car? Well, it certainly is possible. This company wants to succeed, they managed to reach number 1 spot in China in less than 5 years. Xiaomi was founded back in 2010, and they are China’s number one OEM since the end of last year. These documents are a solid indication that Xiaomi is going to release a smart electric car in the future, but we don’t now when exactly will that happen.
Xiaomi si constantly growing. The company has recently expanded to Brasil, which makes this South American country the first country outside of Asia where Xiaomi is officially selling their smartphones. The company is expected to start manufacturing devices in India before the end of the year, and it remains to be seen if they’ll expand to any additional countries in the near future. The electric car is definitely a possibility, though I’d wait for more info before making any assumptions.
The prospect of Xiaomi making such a vehicle is really intriguing. This company managed to manufacture a lot of extremely well-built smartphones and get the price right as well. If Xiaomi manages to produce a really affordable smart electric car, and make it available outside of Asia… well, that would certainly be something worth covering.
