Rhapsody was the first online music streaming service to be released that offered a true unlimited access to an extensive library of digital music for a minimal monthly fee. Launched back in December 2003, the subscription-based service has survived a great increase in its overall competition with newer companies such as Spotify, Google Play Music, and Apple Music, offering a rather similar experience. Today, Rhapsody announced that it will no longer sit still while its many rivals make enhancements to their own services, as the company just rolled out a brand new design update to the native Android app which promises to completely upgrade the visual experience of the app whilst adding numerous new features. The main new feature is a unique mini player which stay above the application currently in use so you can change and favorite tracks without interrupting what you might be doing.
Even if the actual service might feel dated, there is no doubt that Rhapsody isn’t working hard to remain active despite the increased competition. The new updated Rhapsody Android app, brings a well needed refresh throughout the whole app, including some hefty new features that show Rhapsody is not only playing catch up with the other music streaming services. The newly released update’s main goal is to bring a more modern look to the app, with a brand new visual experience which includes features such as dynamic background colors that change depending on the album you’re currently listening to. Rhapsody’s Android app also introduces a “New for you” page, where users will be able to easily visualize personalized new album releases without having to look elsewhere. With this new update, Rhapsody users will finally be able to cast their music without any issues directly to their own Chromecast by simply tapping the cast button. But the most notorious feature is the useful mini-player, where users can favorite and change tracks without interrupting their current activity.
The new update is available starting today for Android users, although it might take some time for it to reach your device as it is a timed roll out. iOS users will also receive an update to Rhapsody but, as of today there has been no word on exactly when it will be released. Rhapsody’s latest update will surely please the 3 million subscribers that the service currently has and will without a doubt give the company a slight advantage over other services.
