Rumor: Mi 5 Plus, First Chinese Phone With Snapdragon 820

Xiaomi has announced their flagship phablets back in January, the Mi Note and Mi Note Pro. This Chinese smartphone OEM has also announced a number of additional smartphone and smart gadgets throughout this year, but more or less everyone is eagerly anticipating the company to showcase their Mi 5 flagship. We’ve seen a ton of rumors regarding this handset, but we’re still not sure when does Xiaomi plan to announce the device. Some rumors were saying that this handset might be powered by the Snapdragon 820 SoC, which seems rather unlikely at this point read on.

The Mi 5 is rumored to launch either next month, or in November. Either way, it’s highly unlikely this smartphone will sport Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 SoC, but according to a new rumors, the Mi 5 Plus might. We’ve already seen a number of spec leaks which suggested that the Mi 5 Plus will sport the Snapdragon 820, and the new leak points in that direction as well. According to the info, the Mi 5 Plus will be the first Chinese handset to sport Qualcomm’s newest processor, while the G Flex 3 will be the first phone, in general, to do so. This is only a rumor at this point, so take it with a grain of salt, as usual.

According to rumors, the Mi 5 Plus will feature a 5.8-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display, 4GB of RAM and 64 or 128GB of in-built storage (two variants). The aforementioned Snapdragon 820 SoC is expected to power this phablet, and the 20.7-megapixel shooter will reportedly be included as this phone’s main shooter. The 8-megapixel camera will be available up front, and the device is also said to sport a rather big battery on the inside, that is kind of logical though considering the huge high-res display it will sport. The Mi 5 Plus will also be made out of metal, though we still don’t know if Xiaomi intends to combine metal with some other materials, or wil this phablet be made entirely out of metal.

That’s more or less it. The Mi 5 Plus was initially said to launch in November, but the new rumor says that the device might arrive later than expected. It is possible that Xiaomi will introduce it in November, and offer it for sale a couple of months later. Either way, we’ll see, stay tuned.
